Dr. Kathy Severson, ND, naturopathic medicine

Dr. Kathy Severson is a naturopathic doctor who is passionate about integrative medicine and helping support individuals in their journey to optimal health. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biopsychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. This interdisciplinary field stimulated her interest in endocrinology, immune health, and the effect of our behaviors on our own health. She then wanted to find ways to achieve balance in the body through a holistic lens. Dr. Kathy Severson received her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. During her time at Bastyr University, she developed special interests in cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, metabolic health, mental health, digestive health and endocrinology. In her clinical practice, she recognizes that each patient presents with their own unique health journeys and needs. She strives to provide patients with the tools they need to attain their goals of a healthier lifestyle both naturally and through primary care medicine.

Dr. Kathy Severson is a Primary Care Naturopathic Physician and Mind Mind Body Medicine provider at Rebel Med NW. Dr. Severson additionally specializes in Physical Medicine, Natural Dermatology, Cardiovascular health, Diabetes management, and Digestive health conditions. During her time in school she was able to get hands on apprentice training with Dr. Andrew Simon & Dr. Jessica Schule over the past 3 years at Rebel Med NW while the clinic was voted Seattle Met Top Doctor by Seattle Met Magazine.

Dr. Severson’s Biospychology program opened her up to the world of holistic medicine and how our thoughts and perceptions of the world affect our behaviors and decision making which translates into our lifestyle and ultimately our health. She decided to go into Naturopathic Medicine and enrolled in medical school at Bastyr University San Diego. She eventually transferred to Bastyr University Kenmore where there is a higher scope of practice so she could gain more diverse and in-depth clinical knowledge.

After attending a Kinesio Taping class and then interning with Dr. Simon, she became a student employee at Rebel Med NW. As a student employee, she played an important role in creating operational systems at the front desk and billing procedures – demonstrating that she was willing to take on large projects and grow her experience even as she was a full time medical student. Eventually, she became Rebel Med NW’s first official CNME Resident where she continued to mentor with Dr. Simon and Dr. Schule and develop her specialties in Mind-Body Medicine, Dermatology, and Primary Care. Dr. Kathy Severson brings her enthusiasm, genuine curiosity, and compassion to all the patients who come to her.

Dr. Kathy Severson believes in empowering her patients with both the education and the diverse treatment options  they need to allow them to take charge of their health. She views the patient as the most important person of the medical team and will be there to support her patients throughout their journey with the full support of our team at Rebel Med NW. Coming from a background of Biopsychology, Dr. Severson uses the latest evidence-based and functional medicine approaches to inform how she manages a case. She then provides a unique blend of behavioral medicine and counseling in helping support her patients succeed in their wellness goals.

Dr. Andrew Simon and staff provided an inviting yet professional environment to receive care in. I appreciated his straight forward approach to my health. I was able to get my questions answered without feeling rushed like with many doctors and his answers were knowledgable but easy to understand. In addition, Dr. Simon was able to provide me a dietary plan to help me improve my energy and feel less inflamed and he didn’t overwhelm me with supplements either. What was really cool was during my visit, I had mentioned I had this weird kink in my neck for a week and he was able adjust my neck and back! I really appreciate the integrated approach Dr. Simon takes.
