Cardiovascular Care & Wellness

Evaluation, Education, and Evidence based Functional Medicine approaches to optimize your cardiovascular health long term.

Cardiovascular Care

Initial Visit & Expectations

At Rebel Med NW, we allot 45-60 minutes for our First Patient Visits and 30 minutes for our return visits. Your Naturopathic Physician will be able to provide you with what you are looking for in our conventional Primary Care setting: medication management, labs, imaging, and referrals but can also provide other methods to address your concerns at the moment.

Here is where we go above and beyond, discussing with your the complete picture of care from the importance of having a team approach both traditional care and naturopathic. We can help implement the necessary dietary, lifestyle, and behavioral factors that your cardiovascular or other providers don’t have the time to.

We use the same assessment markers traditional providers use, including Lipids/Cholesterol, Glucose, Hemoglobin A1C, highly sensitive C-Reactive Protein, and go go further with tests that examine oxidation and damage of the cardiovascular system, or how the microbiome, or environmental contributions play a role in your cardiovascular system.

Hyperlipidemia USPSTF Guidelines

Cholesterol & Atherosclerosis Support

We use the latest guidelines to include a diverse array of medication and nutraceutical support strategies that have been demonstrated to stabilize the endothelial lining of arteries where the primary damage, deposition and oxidation of cholesterol takes place. Our goal is to lower risk safely, while improving and optimizing the elasticity of your arteries.

Hypertension & Blood Flow

The end result of unregulated hypertension can create further damage to your kidneys, heart, blood vessels and lead to increased stroke and heart risk. There is a time and a place for medications to reduce risk, but let’s make sure you are not overtreated while working on sustainable aspects of health including diet, exercise, and stress management. Our primary care physicians will help you build a comprehensive plan to lower blood pressure safely and effectively.

Heart Health & Inflammation

Optimizing heart health is more than blood pressure and cholesterol, it includes how we treat our heart through stress, overall demand, exercise, and the nutrition our heart needs to maintain a healthy rhythm. The Covid-19 Pandemic is a reminder how easily affected our heart can be from the consequences of an infection leading to myocarditis, heart palpitations, and increase our risk of early onset heart disease. Using an integrative approach between nutrition, biofeedback training, and traditional evidence based therapies we can work through optimal heart health strategies.

Cardiovascular Care for All Ages

Cardiovascular Care in your 20s & 30s

Maintaining a healthy heart in your 20s and 30s is crucial for ensuring long-term cardiovascular well-being. The lifestyle choices you make today, such as eating a balanced diet, engaging in regular exercise, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, play a significant role in preventing cardiovascular diseases later in life. These diseases, often the result of years of unhealthy habits, can be mitigated by adopting heart-healthy behaviors now, setting the stage for a healthier future.

Embracing a heart-healthy lifestyle is not just about disease prevention; it’s about enhancing your quality of life across the board. Regular physical activity and a nutritious diet benefit not only your heart but also your mental health, bone density, and metabolic function, lowering the risk of various health issues. By making small, sustainable changes in your lifestyle choices, you’re investing in a lifetime of health and well-being, ensuring a vibrant and active future.

Cardiovascular Care in your 40s & 50s

As you navigate through your 40s and 50s, prioritizing heart health becomes even more crucial. This period marks a time when the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as aging and stress, can become more pronounced. It’s essential to focus on prevention to mitigate the need for higher doses of medications typically prescribed for hypertension or elevated cholesterol levels. An integrative approach to care, combining conventional medical practices with lifestyle modifications, can play a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy heart and preventing disease progression.

Incorporating a diet rich in antioxidants is key to optimizing heart health and promoting longevity. Antioxidants help combat oxidative stress and reduce cardiovascular damage, a common concern as we age. Coupled with regular physical activity, stress management techniques, and avoiding smoking, this approach can significantly lower the risk of heart-related issues. It’s about creating a holistic plan that addresses the multifaceted nature of heart health, including physical, emotional, and dietary factors. By taking proactive steps now, you can significantly impact your heart’s health, reducing the reliance on medications and enhancing your overall quality of life in the years to come.

Cardiovascular Care for 60s & Onward

For individuals in their 60s and beyond, maintaining heart health becomes increasingly focused on preserving circulation and blood flow, along with stabilizing medications to prevent interactions that can jeopardize heart health. At this stage, health optimization becomes crucial for preventing cardiovascular events and enhancing longevity. A well-rounded approach to care is necessary, emphasizing the management of existing health conditions and careful monitoring of medication regimes to avoid adverse interactions, ensuring that treatments for hypertension, cholesterol, and other age-related health concerns work harmoniously.

Healthy blood flow is not only pivotal for heart longevity but also plays a significant role in supporting joint and brain health, areas that often become concerns as we age. Improving circulation through moderate, regular physical activity, a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and adequate hydration can aid in maintaining cognitive function and mobility, directly impacting quality of life and independence. Embracing a lifestyle that supports cardiovascular health in the golden years means focusing on comprehensive wellness strategies that address physical, cognitive, and emotional health. By prioritizing such an integrative approach, individuals can look forward to enjoying not just longer but more vibrant and fulfilling years ahead.

Can I see a Naturopathic Physician & a Cardiologist?

Yes! and we encourage a comprehensive team for those that need it. We found that having doorways open for our patients to get the most appropriate care is where we can achieve the best results. While our facility doesn’t have the same diagnostic equipment & procedures, such as ECHO’s, or Perfusion Studies, we do work with several facilities and cardiovascular physicians via referral. Our goals is to counsel you through the day to day optimization that can be implemented so you can really optimize your cardiovascular longevity while improving your ability to tolerate medications, and an integrative medicine care plan.
